Bill Moran Estate Sale Custom Knives

Bill Moran Bowie Knife.

Bill Moran Bowie - 8" carbon steel blade forged by the hand of Bill Moran. Overall length 13 1/4". Rosewood handle (standard on most early Moran's). Brass fittings. The blade grind is referred to as a full height grind, as the grind goes the full height of the blade. The top clip is sharp, but not as sharp as the blade edge, which is almost razor sharp. Be careful, seriously. An almost identical Moran Bowie is shown on page 192 of "Master of the Forge", a biography of Bill Moran which features tons of his work. On page 192 is a circle of 16 sixteen knives. Starting with the knife at 12 o'clock, count seven knives clockwise and you will see it. Jay Hendrickson (the foremost authority on Moran) believes this knife was made in the 60's. It is known that the full height grind's most prolific period was during the Vietnam era. The sheath is an original Bill Moran sheath, made by Moran for this knife.
